MEET THE INNKEEPERS
Bob Royle and Patty Christian
Inn at Rivers Edge Marina
When Bob Royle retired he bought a fishing boat he kept docked in Point Pleasant. When the docking rates kept going up he started looking around for a new boat slip. He ended up buying the whole marina in Forked River, which included a Victorian-style home that was perfect for use as a B&B.
The B&B lifestyle wasn't foreign to Bob and his wife, Patty. Together they had traveled extensively throughout North American and Europe, preferring to stay in B&Bs and loving the connections they made with other people.
"I like to talk and tell stories," says Bob, so the innkeeper experience is perfect for his personality. Bob and Patti also take guests out on sailing and boating charters, a unique and personalized offering for their visitors.
Fun Fact: Patty is a licensed fishing boat captain, an unusual occupation for a woman. Bob used to be a state corrections officer. "Unruly guests don't stand a chance," he says. Bob's middle name is Valentine. Their first date was on Valentine's Day in 1977. He adds, "We make Valentine's Day a special event."
