INNSIDE STORY
Rejuvenate and rejoice as Spring approaches

As the earth begins to thaw and gives way to the blooms of spring, renewal in nature signals our own need for rejuvenation. Imagine a body scrub, a revitalizing facial or a soothing massage, followed by a relaxing evening in one of our cozy inns. Or make it an all-around healthy weekend at the 2nd Annual Ocean Grove Wellness Weekend from April 27th to 29th. Throughout Ocean Grove there will be more than 30 holistic workshops, demonstrations and health screenings for people seeking alternative choices for healthy living.
That same weekend in Long Branch sees the 11th annual New Jersey Marathon, which benefits children's charities. Whether you're a runner or a spectator, the action starts and finishes at Ocean Place Resort and Spa.
So give yourself that much needed break. Pamper yourself into spring and don't forget to book your stay at one of our member inns!

MEET THE INNKEEPERS
Nancy & Dennis Kaloostian
The Ocean House, Spring Lake
One of the first things you notice when you walk into The Ocean House is the magnificent staircase brought from the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Word has it the staircase was brought to Spring Lake on a barge thanks to a local builder who had some connection to construction of the Expo. In fact a number of buildings in town have banisters, stained windows and pavilions - all brought from the Expo.
The staircase goes from the first to the third floor and was supposedly brought in one piece. Another piece that didn't fit was rumored to have gone back to Philly and is now in the Smithsonian in Washington. "At least that's what we've learned from our research," says Nancy Kaloostian.
Nancy and Dennis spent years in the restaurant business so they were already well seasoned in the hospitality industry when they became innkeepers. What came as a surprise to Nancy were the deep friendships she and her husband have formed with many of the guests.
"I expected it to be more like a business," she says, "but a lot of people walk up on this porch and say it feels like home. It's a very good feeling, knowing that people feel that comfortable being here."
Fun Fact: Since it opened in 1878 The Ocean House has always been a guest house and it has always been owned or operated by a woman.
EAT INN: A healthy celebration of fruits and salads
